Jolt Radio, a local online radio station, is hoping for an El Dia de los Muertos celebration no one will forget.
Phantom Fandango, hosted by Jolt Radio to celebrate the Mexican holiday, brings together local bands, including Beach Day, Deaf Poets, Dino Felipe and This Heart Electric.
“Getting people to enjoy music is good, bringing a community together to enjoy local music is better,” said event coordinator and station founder John Caignet. “We have a lot of great bands on a really fun night.”
The event will be held at Churchill's Pub, located at 5501 NE Second Ave.
Dia de Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a holiday celebrated primarily in Mexico, although celebrations take place around the world. Customary celebrations for this holiday include gathering with friends and family around a beloved’s burial in remembrance of their life. Many bring treats including sugar skulls and marigolds to create an altar honoring the deceased.
Saturday’s event will feature Santa Maria candles, marigolds, sugar skulls and other Mexican treats available for attendees.
The event will raise funds for the station, on the web at JoltRadio.org.
Jolt Radio has volunteered music and DJs at many arts and culture events around South Florida, including YoMiami’s Average Joe Art Sales, and Subculture’s Sincerely Yours, Marty McFly events. They recently began hosting weekly events at The Electric Pickle, Lester’s and Wood Tavern in Wynwood.
“We’ve been able to bring together some really great bands at a revered venue,” said Stephanie Sarria, another coordinator for the Phantom Fandango. “We can’t wait to see everyone there,”
The event will take place at Churchill’s Pub, from 9 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday, and will include giveaways and a raffle with prizes donated by Jolt Radio and sponsor Sweat Records. Tickets are $5 at the door.

French Week Miami is a month-long event that showcases French culture and its prevalence in South Florida, including French films, discussions and deals at restaurants and boulangeries.
At 6 p.m. on Nov. 8, hundreds of local residents will commemorate the 74th anniversary of "Kristallnacht," or the Night of Broken Glass, which was considered to be a major turning point in Hitler's campaign to annihilate Jewish people in the early days of World War II.Sponsored by the Holocaust Memorial of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, participants will gather at the Holocaust Memorial at1933-1945 Meridian Ave. in Miami Beach for a program of inspirational addresses, poetry readings and musical performances. Speakers willinclude an eyewitness to "Kristallnacht," as well as Andrew C. Hall, Esq., the first child survivor of the Holocaust to serve as chairmanof the Holocaust Memorial.
